Home makeover

Who need’s men, when you can do it yourself?

31 januari 2012

Last week I renovated our bathroom because it needed a well deserved makeover. This week we will put our apartment for sale so we can sell it (hopefully soon) and buy a house with more space. Our apartment looked great, so the only thing we did was clean up a lot of our stuff and stored it at our parents houses. We removed a lot of closets and furnature to make the apartment look bigger.

The only thing that def needed a makeover was our bathroom. The previous owner painted all the walls, but some of the tiles looked awful because all the paint was crumbling of the tiles. So I went to get paint, brushes, gloves and all the other fun tools to get me ready for ‘My project’. My boyfriend couln’t be happier to see me be so motivated to start this awful job.

This is what the worst tiles looked like:

First day I took off the paint from the worst looking tiles, and it took forever that scratch it all off without damaging the good tiles.

After a few hours it looked like this:

Because that took forever we put paint remover on a lot of tiles, with smelled toxic but worked a lot better.

After taking off all the bad paint it looked like this:

When I was finished with that I took out all the glue seems out and we washed all the walls.

We put 2 layers of primers on the dark tiles so they would look lighter and we could easily paint them over.

It already looked a little bit better:

A day later we painted half of the bathroom together and I finished the other half the next day because it needed time to dry. That night we checked it out and I wasn’t satisfied, so I painted the whole bathroom again the next day.

So 5 days later this was my final result:

I know it’s not the most modern bathroom, but I think I’ve made it look very nice, considering the time and money saved. We did buy some new accessoiries to make it look a little bit nicer. I picked the laundry basket, the two flowerpots with (fake) plants and the bathroom carpet at Ikea.

So I proved to myself  (and the boyfriend) that I could renovate without the help of a guy. My boyfriend did help me out alittle bit, but I did most things on my own. And I’m very happy with the result.

These last 3 photos will also be in our brochure to sell the apartment.

Did you ever renovated anything or did a makeover?Could you do it without the help of a guy?

Spread the love

Wow! Proud of you! I’m far too lazy to do all of that all on my own, would definitely ‘invite’ the boyfriend to join in 😉 What’s the next project?

I’ve done that plenty – my dad is useless at DIY, so my mum and I have learnt to do a lot. Most furniture I put together myself – sometimes I’ve needed my dad’s help to drill holes (I do not trust myself with that thing!), I’ve installed a carpet, but a door on, painted the walls.
I’m not ashamed to ask a guy for help or anything but if it needs doing I’ll do it myself.

Lol had to be – the house would have fallen down if we let my dad loose!
